Founded in 1933, as a successor to a club called Boston, they are known as The Pilgrims - in reference to the Pilgrim Fathers, who fled from England and sailed to North America and founded Boston, Massachusetts.

The club's traditional colours are amber and black. The ground is tight and atmospheric and the capacity is 6,643 (5,711 seated). Rival clubs include Lincoln City, Scunthorpe United and Grimsby Town.

In the 1955-56 FA Cup run they defeated a then Third Division Derby County 6-1, a record away win by a non-league team against League opponents in the FA Cup.
