Type 22 World War 2 Pillbox, Frieston, Lincolnshire

During the Second World War, defences were constructed around Freiston Shore as part of the anti-invasion defences when Britain stood alone against Germany.

A number of pillboxes, gun emplacements and coastal lights were constructed and the remains of these fortifications can be seen and explored today.

For the modern generation, it can easily be underestimated how these simple looking buildings would have been devastating to enemy troops coming ashore.
