Grimsby Town football club is based in the seaside town of Cleethorpes, in the north east pocket of the county.

They were formed in 1878 as Grimsby Pelham and later became Grimsby Town. Known as The Mariners they play at Blundell Park and have been there since 1898. The ground has a 9,546 capacity which can been increased to 10,033 utilising temporary seating.

Although residing in the Conference Premier, Grimsby have experienced top-flight football in the old First Division (now Premier League) and have been Champions in Division Two, Three and Four. They also won the Football League Trophy in the late 1990s.

Bill Shankly managed Grimsby Town between 1951-1953 before his success at Liverpool.
