St Michael's Church, Mavis Enderby, Lincolnshire

Mavis Enderby is a hamlet and civil parish in the East Lindsey district of of the county. It lies in the Lincolnshire Wolds, 4.5 miles (7 km) east from Horncastle.

Built during the 14th century, St Michael's Church retains perpendicular and decorated work. It underwent improvement in the 15th century and was much restored during the late 19th century by James Fowler. The tower was also rebuilt during this period by C. Hodgson Fowler.

As an aside, the village name has a quirky literary reference; famous sci-fi writer, Douglas Adams, used the name "Mavis Enderby" in his spoof The Meaning of Liff dictionary ...
