Hewitts Windmill, Heapham, Lincolnshire
In the West Lindsey disctrict stands Hewitts Windmill, a historic part of an agricutural community and working landscape.
Today, as a non-working and renovated Tower mill with sails, it is a standing testament to a bygone age of milling, its constuction owed to the millwright Johnson of Low Burnham, near Haxey, in the mid 19th century.
Fully operational until after the Second World War, when it was twice struck by lightning, the building was left abandoned after much damage. It was restored in 1996 by Hewitt's great grandson, Frank, and is open most days of the year by appointment.
Heapham is a village and civil parish, located 5 miles south-east from Gainsborough.
