Gibraltar Point National Nature Reserve, Skegness, Lincolnshire
Gibraltar Point is an area of some 430 hectares comprising sandy and muddy seashores, sand-dunes, saltmarshes and freshwater habitats. It extends some 3 miles along the Lincolnshire coast line and contains an incredible range of plant life: Cowslips, Pyramidal Orchids, Meadow Saxifrage and many others.
Gibraltar Point, often referred to as Gib Point, is perhaps best known for its birds and the long-established bird observatory and ringing station. Some 214 species were recorded during 1994 and the total number keeps going up as new 'firsts' are recorded.
Gibraltar Point is also a key insect site, with a wide range of species recorded. The visitors center contains a number of viewing and photography points.
