Sir John Franklin Statue, Spilsby, Lincolnshire
Sir John Franklin (1786-1847), born Spilsby, was an English explorer who led several expeditions to the Arctic region. In 1829 he was awarded the Geographic Society Gold Medal and was knighted by King George IV. He lost his life during an expedition to find the Northwest Passage, a northern water route across North America.
He was presented with a silver plate by the people of Spilsby.
